Get Ready New Jersey, cannabis lounges are on the horizon!
Last week, the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJ-CRC) approved the proposed rules for cannabis consumption lounges. The proposed rules would allow for the following: - Licensed Cannabis Retailers allowed for indoor/outdoor consumption lounges - Lounges must be approved by NJ-CRC directly, as well as local authorities - Like bars, employees will be required to provide safe environments and not "oversell" customers - Patrons must prove they are at least 21 years old - Micro businesses will pay $1,000 licensing fee - Standard consumption lounge will pay $5,000 licensing fee
Regulators voted unanimously to approve the rules, so they are now entered into a 60-day public comment period before officials can reconsider & finalize.
Jeff Brown, Executive Director of the NJ-CRC, told the Monitor, "I truly believe that this rule proposal, like everything else we've tried to do, adequately balances both equity and safety and will open up new opportunities for businesses and consumers."
